Operawire: Q&A with Soprano Layla Claire
Soprano Layla Claire is gearing up to do her role debut as Alcina with the Internationale Händel-Festspiele Karlsruhe, so she was interviewed by Operawire about the role and more – here’s a snippet:
I’d love to sing more Handel roles, certainly Rodelinda and Genevra. I also take my cue from Anna Maria Strada who in 1735 was the first Alcina. She was Handel’s Prima Donna for many years and sang Partenope, Atalanta, Angelica as well as Thusnelda in “Arminio” which was my first role here at the Internationale Händel-Festspiele Karlsruhe.” -Layla, full Operawire feature here.
