National Post: Rosemarie Umetsu Day 2
Leading up to the Amici Chamber Ensemble’s FASHIONISTA concert January 29, Rosemarie Umetsu is writing a five day diary in the National Post Arts section. Here’s day 2! Details on Fashionista at amiciensemble.com
Nothing quite like the energy of New York City, to inspire and fuel excitement for ‘fashion as art’, the theme of FASHIONISTA. It was exciting to be invited by Serouj Kradjian, Artistic Director of the Amici Ensemble to guest in their 2012 Season. Not only did it marry my two favourite passions, classical music and fashion, but it presented a rare opportunity to collaborate with a living composer Alice Ho, on a commissioned world premiere “Breath of Fire”. Classical music has often been the inspiration to collections I’ve designed and pieces I have created for various artists. Yet, the unique experience, of sitting with Alice, listening to tracks still in the development stage, and visualizing fashion and colours in musical notes, to feel part of the creative process, to tell a story was thrilling. I think there is only one way you can experience the realization of this collaboration – Get Tickets!
