ARC Ensemble’s Artistic Director, Simon Wynberg, along with ARC violinist Benjamin Bowman and pianist/composer David Louie were interviewed by CBC Music’s Robert Rowat about Louie’s newly completed Mendelssohn Sonata.

Here’s a rare opportunity to hear the debut recording of music by Felix Mendelssohn — streaming above — and to discover the story behind it. It’s a movement of a violin sonata dating from 1825, left incomplete by the teenaged Mendelssohn.

Simon Wynberg, artistic director of Toronto’s ARC Ensemble (Artists of the Royal Conservatory), came across the manuscript in the Mendelssohn Archive of the Berlin State Library. The sonata fragment was recently completed by pianist David Louie, who recorded it with violinist Benjamin Bowman.” -CBC MUSIC, full feature here.
