CBC Music launched Wallis Giunta’s New YouTube/Facebook Series

CBC Music launched mezzo Wallis Giunta’s new YouTube/Facebook video series that she will be presenting over the next 14 or so weeks. Every Wednesday, Wallis will post a new video on her YouTube and Facebook feeds. Pianist Peter Dugan and her sister Marley Giunta (guitar) join her on this series. Follow along.

In July of last year, Canadian mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta performed a recital of songs by Vaughan Williams, Schubert, Strauss, Schumann, Hahn, Montsalvatge, Barber, Duparc, Niles, Britten, Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell at the Music & Beyond festival in Ottawa.

As if the eclecticism of the program wasn’t enough novelty, Giunta’s recital — called “Ladies & Gentlemen” — also featured her singing music written for both men and women. The first half featured Giunta’s gentlemen characters, and the ladies followed after the intermission.

But the concept isn’t just a matter of singing music written for male voices, versus female voices. (In some cases, these songs were written for either.) It’s also about the kinds of stories that these composers gave to narrators of different genders. Each song on the program is a first-person narrative that forces the singer to inhabit a character.” -CBC Music, CLICK HERE TO SEE TWO MORE VIDEOS ON CBC MUSIC.
